Vanessa in a big twin bed

She slept on the twin bed last night, woke up at 2 am and tried to climb in bed with me, but I carried her back to bed. She cried on the way back to her room and demanded to sleep in the crib, which she seemed more comfortable in. She went back to sleep, thankfully, without a peep.  Tonight she will try the twin bed again, we will see how it goes.

  1. A Froebel principle when introducing children to new things is to have a combination of what they're familiar with and things that are new...so they can relate to what they already know, but compare it to what is new. For example first they become familiar with playing with a yarn ball on a string, which is a sphere or ball then they are given a round wood ball the same size. The two are similar in shape, but different in many other ways. A child of course before 6 months needs to have a yarn ball on a string, but after that, can learn to hold and manipulate and play with a more solid, hard, and more active form.
Or have Vanessa "practice" laying in the bed perhaps while telling stories to have some pleasant and safe experiences there before she's let to sleep in it. When Rachel was moved out of the crib to make room for you she feared the wolf behind the dresser...but Dad spent many evenings sitting in bed with her (and you) reading books so she got comfortable...never the less the wolf was a regular problem. You didn't mind having a twin bed...but then you and Rachel shared a room and Rach was happy to leave the wolf room behind.
Jay was already four when we moved to Mason City, but he loved having his own room with tractors on the walls. Perhaps Vanessa has to put up some of her favorite pictures on the walls. Vanessa I can see will resist changes since she is in a week position family wise...and needs a greater sense of security and belonging perhaps?
So that's the advice from a Grandma!

  2. thanks mom, she slept well in it last night and for her last two naps just fine. I don't know what woke her up that night. She still sleeps in her big girl bed with her favorite babies and blankets. :)

  3. Big Girl Bed sounds appealing too! Next thing she will be boasting or responsibility!
    I can do that!
