Alyssa LaMarche and Jackson Springthorpe wedding weekend Jan 22, 2022

We drove to PA again! This time was in the simplicity of our own van...not a camper.  Martha took a flight this time.  I am writing a month past the event and a lot has happened since then but I figure I might as well at least write what I remember.

On the way, we were planning on staying overnight with our Ohio family (Butlers and Barcuses) but the day we drove out, they called us with a health update saying a couple of them had tested positive for strep throat.  We had to make a tough choice to say we'd rather avoid exposure to that, and drive on past their house and find a hotel to stay in.  We went on to Akron and rented a couple hotel rooms.  It was an extra hour and a half past the 8 hours we expected to driving but oh well.  We stopped at a restaurant called Melt Bar and Grill and the food was good but the servings were gigantic and almost disgusting how huge they were.  We tried eating what we could but ended up leaving feeling a little sick and too full of cheese.

This was HALF my sandwich....chicken and waffles all in there with bread on each side. Wow.

The hotel we checked into was a Homewood Suites and it turned out to be very interesting.  The beds and bathrooms were clean, but there were dirty dishes in the dishwasher and strange paper towels wrapped around each fire alarm.  The place under further inspection revealed lots of dirt/trash.  We called the front desk to be moved but they didn't have any more adjoining rooms available.  In the morning, Dave spoke with the hotel staff and they quickly took off all charges.  Breakfast was decent...we had to get out pretty quick to make it to the wedding.  The drive to PA from Akron, OH was quick - 2 or 3 hrs.  We checked into the Hampton Inn in Bedford, PA and found those two rooms to be just perfect.

We got ready quick...(had a little mishap with a flat iron that was too hot and burned some of Vanessa's hair off...oops)...and dashed off to the wedding at 3pm and walked in at 2:55.

In the elevator...at the Hampton Inn - ready to go!

Alyssa LOVES pickles - so there was an appetizer pickle bar, of course!

Sunday morning we joined Sean at church and had a good discussion along with others about unity in the body of Christ.

drive home went under one of the longest under-the-mountain-or-whatever-you-call-it tunnels on the PA turnpike

Violet found some strange candy and it turned out to be gooey and disgusting

this is eventually what a road trip looks like

We did end up going to Butlers and Barcuses on our return trip and stayed with them Sunday night.  Deb made a couple pans of ravioli lasagna and it was delicious.
Violet and I spent some time in Kala's jewelry craft room and she picked out some birthday jewelry.

Vanessa and Georgia reading books together right away

that night Ruthie lost a tooth

Luca might be our favorite

yup...everybody loves Luca and Luca loves everybody

Monday morning....terrible weather!  We left at 9am and the wet snow and slush created difficult going at any rate of speed that felt good.  I think we were going 30-45 mph the first 3 hours.  I drove that stretch.

The roads cleared up and the sun began to shine around Chicago - and Violet was happy to drive a few hours.
