Our house caught on fire today (late morning) after some ashes from the fire pit that were too hot caught on fire in the yard waste bin next to the back of the house behind the garage. A child of mine put them in there without thinking. This certain child of mine wasn't in school and assigned to quarantine because of a covid exposure.
I heard a deep, loud “whoomp” like I’ve
never heard before, glanced quickly out the deck door, and saw a big ball of
flames near the air conditioner and lots of smoke billowing. The kids
dashed to the front yard per our fire drill actions, and I grabbed my phone to
call 911 and the fire department and police were in our house with in two or
three minutes. They put it out quickly but the water damage from putting
out the fire is extensive, mostly in the garage, on the main floor and all the
way to the basement, and some parts of the NE corner of our house.
Everyone is fine. We’ve got
disaster clean up on task and insurance involved. The power is back on,
and we plan to stay here.
I’m feel frustrated that it happened by something that could have been
prevented.
We’ll most likely have lots of
construction happening around here for the next couple of months to get things
back in order.
